This 17th century house is a manor house with a chapel, dedicated to Nª Sª de Guadalupe, considered to be the oldest in the parish of Aldeias, Armamar.
The Chapel bond (one of the richest in the entire Diocese of Lamego) was instituted by Manuel Cardoso Madeira, on November 21st, 1697. Its precious Tombo was lost (along with other documents) in a great fire that, in December 1999; consumed the entire interior and contents of the House, which has since been completely restored in keeping with its original design.
Its coat of arms belongs to the Cardosos, Fonsecas and Madeiras.
The Chapel is mentioned in some works, namely the excellent work by J. Gonçalves Monteiro, “Subsídios para a Monografia do Concelho de Armamar”.
The house and chapel are also part of the tourist postcards published by the Armamar Municipal Council, in a reproduction of a view of the house and chapel in a magnificent pen drawing.
Located in the Douro Demarcated Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, south of the Douro River, in the town of Aldeias, located on the northern slope of the mountain called Fraga da Pena, it is approximately 3 kilometers from the headquarters of the municipality of Armamar, in the district of Viseu.
